ToxSquad Teaching
When a visiting high school comes to the University of Florida and needs a lesson in environmental health - ToxSquad is on the case! We had so much fun - we even got to look at crustaceans under the microscope! (Spring 2019)
Tox on Tap Trivia - Fall 2018
We had our second trivia night in December, and despite the chill it was a success! Thank you to all of our attendees and congratulations to the winning team! See you all again next semester!
ToxSquad goes to SETAC
In August of 2018, a few of our members traveled to Dauphin Island, Alabama to represent the ToxSquad at a conference hosted by the Society of Toxicology and Chemistry's southeastern region! We hosted a little trivia, presented a poster, and had a wonderful time! We hope we can come back next year!
Tox on Tap Trivia Night at Cypress and Grove
On June 28th, the ToxSquad held our very first science-themed trivia night at a local Gainesville brewery. We are happy to announce that we had around 50 participants and 13 teams total, and that the evening was a huge success! A special congratulations to the winning teams, and thank you to everyone who came out!
Fun at PK Yonge
In February 2018, the ToxSquad went to PK Yonge Developmental Research School for Wacky Wednesday! We had the amazing opportunity to talk to the wonderful Grade 4 students about environmental health. We hope they had fun!
Tox Field Day
In July of 2017, the ToxSquad partnered up with the Center for Precollegiate Education and Training at the University of Florida and organized a field day for the Research in Environmental Toxicology program! We came up with toxicology-themed activities for the day and covered a range of topics in environmental health, from the definition of a toxicant, to potency, to dose-response. We had such a good time at this field day!
Environmental Health & Toxicology Summer Course
For the last three summers, members of the ToxSquad have team-taught a 3-week course in environmental health for the Student Science Training Program at the University of Florida. Directed towards juniors and seniors in high school, our instructors utilize a combination of in-class group activities and scientific case studies to introduce students to topics in environmental health. We love teaching this course, and are offering it again this summer!
